Blondie is an American new wave/post-punk rock band, most famously consisting of Debbie Harry on lead vocals, Chris Stein on lead guitar, Frank Infante on rhythm guitar, Nigel Harrison on bass, Jimmy Destri on keyboards, piano and synthesiser and Clem Burke on drums and percussion.Formed in New York City in 1975, the group released their self-titled debut album with Private Stock Records the following year. It included the hit singles X-Offender, In the Flesh and Rip Her to Shreds. This was followed by 1977’s Plastic Letters and the UK Top 10 singles Denis and (I’m Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear. However it was their third album that would propel them to international stardom.
Parallel Lines was released in September 1978 and was an instant hit. It shot to number one in the UK, number two in Australia and number six in the US, and sold over twenty million copies worldwide – making it one of the bestselling albums of the decade. The single Heart of Glass was an international smash hit, reaching number one in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and several more countries, and is now considered one of the greatest songs of all time. The album also produced five further singles: Sunday Girl reached the top spot in the UK; Hanging on the Telephone and Picture This reached the UK Top 15; and One Way or Another hit number 24 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Blondie have since released a further five studio albums and scored hits with singles like Union City Blue, Call Me, Atomic, The Tide Is High, Rapture, Island of Lost Souls, War Child, Maria, Nothing Is Real But The Girl and Good Boys.
