Nickelback is a Canadian alternative rock group, currently consisting of Chad Kroeger on lead vocals and lead/rhythm guitar, Ryan Peake on lead/rhythm guitar, Mike Kroeger on bass guitar and Daniel Adair on drums (formerly Brandon Kroeger/Ryan Vikedal).Formed in 1995, the band self-released their first EP Hesher in March 1996. This was swiftly followed by their debut album Curb in May, which included the songs Where?, Fly, Left and Window Shopper. Although not commercially successful, the album was re-released in 2002 and earned a gold certification in Canada. Curb also led to the group signing a record deal with EMI and Roadrunner Records.
The rock group released their debut major label album The State in March 2000. It reached number 130 on the Billboard 200 and produced the US Main Rock chart Top 10 hits Leader of Men and Breathe, as well as the Top 30 hit Old Enough. However, it was Nickelback’s third album that would give them mainstream success.
Silver Side Up was released in September 2001. It reached a high of number two in the US chart, as well as number one in the UK and Canada, and sold in excess of eight million copies worldwide. The lead single How Your Remind Me was a phenomenal international success, reaching number one in the US and Canada and eventually becoming American radio’s most-played song of the decade, while the follow-up singles Too Bad and Never Gonna Be Alone Again were UK Top 10 and Top 30 hits respectively.
Since then the group have released a further three albums – The Long Road, All the Right Reasons and Dark Horse – and scored the US Top 10 hits Someday, Photograph, Far Away, Rockstar and Gotta Be Somebody, as well as the Top 20 singles Savin’ Me, If Everyone Cared and If Today Was Your Last Day. Alanis Morissette is a Canadian-American pop/alternative rock singer-songwriter.Born 1st June 1974 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Morissette began playing the piano at the age of six. She wrote her first song Stay with Me at the age of ten, and released it as a single with the backing of local folk singer Lindsay Morgan. Her musical education continued throughout elementary and high school, and at the age of twelve she also took an acting role as a regular character on the CTV/Nickelodeon show You Can’t Do That on Television.
She entered a number of local talent competitions in her teens and won several of them. She also appeared on the renowned Star Search in New York, USA, but was sent home after just the first round. However, this appearance led to her signing her first record contract in 1988. She released two albums (in Canada only) in the early 1990s – Alanis and Now Is the Time – and scored Top 40 hits with the singles Too Hot, Walk Away, Feel Your Love, An Emotion Away, No Apologies and (Change Is) Never a Waste of Time.
But it was 1995’s Jagged Little Pill that shot Morissette to international fame. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 (spending twelve weeks there in total) and sold over 33 million copies worldwide – making it one of the best-selling records of all time. It was nominated for six Grammy Awards (winning four) and produced five US Top 10 singles – You Oughta Know, Ironic, You Learn, Hand in My Pocket and Head over Feet.
Alanis Morissette has released four more albums since then – Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie (1998), Under Rug Swept (2002), So-Called Chaos (2004) and Flavors of Entanglement (2008) – which have produced the hit singles Uninvited, Thank U, Hands Clean, Precious Illusions, Hands Clean, Everything, Eight Easy Steps, Underneath and I Remain.

Avril Lavigne is a Canadian pop rock/punk singer-songwriter from Belleview, Ontario.Born 27th September 1984, Lavigne began singing at the age of two. At fourteen her father built her a home studio, complete with microphone, drum kit, keyboard, rhythm and bass guitars, and Lavigne soon began to perform at country fairs and write her own material.
In 1998 she won a radio competition and got the opportunity to appear with Shania Twain on tour. Off the back of this she was invited to perform on local singer Stephen Medd’s 1999 album Quinte Spirit.
In 2000 Lavigne auditioned for the head of Arista Records, Antonio Reid, and was immediately signed to a two album contract. She dropped out of school and moved to America to record her debut album…
Let’s Go was released in June 2002, when Lavigne was just seventeen. It shot to number two on the Billboard 200, reaching number one in the UK and Canada. It eventually went on to sell over sixteen million copies – making it one of the biggest selling albums of the decade – and produced three Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 singles: Complicated, Sk8er Boi and I’m With You. The album earned a total of eight Grammy Award nominations and led to the singer being named Best New Artist at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards.
Lavigne’s next album, 2004’s Under My Skin, was also a huge commercial success. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and has, to date, sold over ten million copies worldwide. It spawned the Top 30 singles My Happy Ending and Don’t Tell Me and led to her performing on her first world tour.
The singer’s third album The Best Damn Thing was released in April 2007. It was another Billboard 200 number one hit and has sold over seven million records worldwide to date. The lead single Girlfriend shot to the top spot on the Hot 100 and was the biggest selling song of 2007, while the follow up singles When You’re Gone, Hot and The Best Damn Thing all charted.
In January 2010 Lavigne released the single Alice for the soundtrack to the Tim Burton film Alice in Wonderland, and she is currently working on material for her fourth studio album.
