Sugababes are a British pop/R&B girl group, currently consisting of Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen but originally consisting of Siobhán Donaghy, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan. According to the Guinness World Records, they are the most successful female act of the 21st century worldwide.

The band was formed in 1998 by Ron Tom – the manager of chart-topping girl group All Saints. Siobhán Donaghy and Mutya Buena, only thirteen at the time, had already been signed to Tom’s label London Records but upon discovering Buena’s friend Keisha Buchanan, he decided to put them together as a trio – likening their appearance to a United Colors of Benetton campaign (they are all of different ethnic origin).

The trio released their debut album One Touch in 2000. It reached the Top 30 in the UK Albums Chart and produced the Top 10 single Overload, which was nominated for Best Single BRIT Award, as well as the Top 40 hits New Year, Run for Cover and Soul Sound. However, the album did not meet London Records’ expectations and the group were dropped from the label in 2001. Donaghy also left the group at this time. After recruiting new member Heidi Range, Sugababes signed to Island Records soon after.

Their second studio album Angels with Dirty Faces was a huge success. Released in August 2002, it shot to number two in the UK Albums Chart, selling over a million copies, and spawned four singles: the number one smash hits Freak Like Me and Round Round, and the Top 15 singles Stronger/Angels with Dirty Faces and Shape.

Since then the group have released a further four UK Top 10 albums – Three, Taller in More Ways, Change and Catfights and Spotlights – and scored number one hits with the singles Hole in the Head, Push the Button, Walk This Way (with Girls Aloud) and About You Now, as well as reaching the Top 10 with Too Lost In You, In the Middle, Caught In a Moment, Ugly, Red Dress, Easy and Girls.

Sugababes’ seventh studio album Sweet 7 – the first with the new line up – was released in March 2010. It has produced three UK Top 10 hits to date – Get Sexy, About a Girl and Wear My Kiss.
