Lifehouse is an American alternative rock/post-grunge band, consisting of Jason Wade on lead vocals and guitar, Ben Carey on guitar, Bryce Soderberg on bass and Rick Woolstenhulme Jr. on drums and percussion.Formed in 1999 in Los Angeles, California, Lifehouse released their debut album No Name Face with Dreamworks Records in October 2000. It reached number six in the US, selling over four million copies worldwide, and produced the smash hit lead single Hanging by a Moment – which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. This was followed by Sick Cycle Carousel and Breathing, which both charted inside the Top 5 in Canada. The song Everything was also used as the theme for the hit television series Smallville.
The group’s next album Stanley Climbfall was also successful, reaching the Top 10 in the US and producing the Canadian Top 10 singles Spin and Take Me Away, but they parted ways with their record company soon after its release and moved to Geffen Records. Their third studio album Lifehouse was released in March 2005 and gave the group their third straight Billboard 200 Top 10 record. It was a critical and commercial success, selling over three million copies and spawning the US number five hit single You and Me, as well as the follow up single Blind.
Since then the group have released a further two studio albums – 2007’s Who We Are and 2010’s Smoke and Mirrors – which both charted inside the Top 15 on the Billboard 200. Between them they have produced five singles to date – First Time, Whatever It Takes, Broken, Halfway Gone and All In – as well as the songs It Is What It Is (used on an episode of the television show The Vampire Diaries) and Crash and Burn (used on an episode of the television show Castle).
