Instead, she has said she would love Lady Gaga to join her on tour in 2011.

A source close to the singer said: “Madonna is absolutely obsessed with Gaga. She thinks she is the most cutting-edge star to come out of pop in ages and desperately wants to work with her”

Lady Gaga is yet to respond to the invitation but one thing’s for sure – any concert with both Madonna and Lady Gaga is sure to be a record seller.

The pop superstar put her mansion in Hollywood Hills on the market in 2008, after paying $11.5 million for a new home in Beverly Hills which was previously owned by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. Her Hollywood home was originally on the market for $8 million but a lack of market interest has led to her slashing the price on several occasions, with the latest cut of $255,000 bringing it down to a paltry $6 million.

However, the singer – who is known for hits like Genie in a Bottle, Lady Marmalade, Dirrty and Beautiful – may be forced to cut it even further as recent statistics reveal that sales of homes in the US have plummeted to their lowest level in fifteen years.

Bowie first shot to fame with the release of his 1969 single Space Oddity – which was a UK Top 5 hit – along with the album of the same name. This was swiftly followed by the 1970 album The Man Who Sold the World, which reached number 26 in the UK and included songs like The Width of a Circle, The Man Who Sold the World and The Supermen – and the 1971 album Hunky Dory, which reached number three in the UK and spawned the classic singles Changes and Life on Mars?

Formed in New York City in 1975, the group released their self-titled debut album with Private Stock Records the following year. It included the hit singles X-Offender, In the Flesh and Rip Her to Shreds. This was followed by 1977’s Plastic Letters and the UK Top 10 singles Denis and (I’m Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear. However it was their third album that would propel them to international stardom.

Parallel Lines was released in September 1978 and was an instant hit. It shot to number one in the UK, number two in Australia and number six in the US, and sold over twenty million copies worldwide – making it one of the bestselling albums of the decade. The single Heart of Glass was an international smash hit, reaching number one in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and several more countries, and is now considered one of the greatest songs of all time. The album also produced five further singles: Sunday Girl reached the top spot in the UK; Hanging on the Telephone and Picture This reached the UK Top 15; and One Way or Another hit number 24 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

The Bloodhound Gang

Formed by Jimmy Pop and Daddy Long Legs in 1992 and originally called Bang Chamber 8, the group released their first self-titled demo tape later that year. After deciding to change their name to pay homage to the popular 1980s kid’s TV show The Bloodhound Gang, they then released a second tape called Just Another Demo. This led to them securing a regular slot at the famous CBGBs in Manhatten, New York City, where they recorded their third demo tape The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to Hitler’s Handicapped Helpers. Following its release, the group were signed to Cheese Factory Records in April 1994, and released their first EP Dingleberry Haze in November that year.

In March 1995 the group signed with Columbia Records and released their debut full-length album Use Your Fingers in July, which included the songs Mama Say, Kids in America (a cover of the Kim Wilde hit) and K.I.D.S. Incorporated (a cover of the TV theme tune). This was swiftly followed by 1996’s One Fierce Beer Coaster, which charted at number 57 on the Billboard 200 and included the hit Fire Water Burn.

However, it was 1999’s Hooray for Boobies that propelled the group to international fame. The lead single The Bad Touch reached the Top 5 in the UK and was a huge hit around the world, while Pacman, Discover channel, Vagina, Along Comes Mary, Mope and The Inevitable Return of the Great White Dope all performed well. This success continued with 2005’s Hefty Fine, which reached number 25 on the Billboard 200 and produced the hit singles Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo, Ralph Wiggum and No Hard Feelings.

Travis

Formed in 1990 in Glasgow, Scotland, the group were originally called Glass Onion (after The Beatles’ song of the same name) and released an EP under the name in 1993. A couple of years later they changed their name to Travis, after the character Travis Henderson from the film Paris, Texas, and signed to the record label Independiente, releasing their debut single All I Want to Do Is Rock in 1996.

Their debut album Good Feeling was released in September 1997. It was critically acclaimed and reached the Top 10 on the UK Albums Chart, producing the Top 40 singles U16 Girls, Tied to the 90’s, Happy and More Than Us. However, it was their second studio album that shot them to mainstream fame. The Man Who, released in May 1999, shot straight to number one in the UK – where it went on to over 2.7 million copies, being certified 9x platinum, and became the best-selling British album of the year – as well as reaching number two in Ireland and number eight in Australia. It produced four singles in total – Writing to Reach You, Driftwood, Why Does It Always Rain On Me? and Turn – which all reached the UK Top 20 and helped the group earn Best British Album at the 2000 Brit Awards.

After releasing the compilation album Singles, which produced the hit Coming Around, the group released their third studio album The Invisible Band in 2001. It was another big hit, reaching number one in the UK and the Top 40 in the US, and spawning the hit single Sing, Flowers in the Window and Side. Since then the group have released a further three albums – 12 Memories, The Boy With No Name and Ode to J. The Police

The band released their first album Outlandos d’Amour, containing their unique brand of rock music infused with jazz, punk and reggae, in 1978. Although initially gaining an unfavourable review from the BBC, the album slowly earned critical acclaim and commercial popularity, peaking at number six in the UK Albums Chart. The two songs particularly criticised by the BBC, Roxanne and Can’t Stand Losing You (about prostitution and suicide respectively), both charted inside the UK Top 15, with the latter reaching number two. The album’s third single So Lonely also reached number six in the UK Singles Chart.

The group’s second studio album Reggatta de Blanc was released the following year. It shot straight to number one in the UK, selling millions of copies around the world, and spawned the number one singles Message in a Bottle and Walking on the Moon. The title track Reggatta de Blanc also won them their first Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

During the early 1980s the group released a further three studio albums – Zenyattà Mondatta, Ghost in the Machine and Synchronicity – which all shot to number one in the UK Albums chart (and reached the Top 5 on the US Billboard 200). The albums produced a number of hits, including Don’t Stand So Close to Me, De Do Do Do De Da Da Da, Invisible Sun, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Spirits in the Material World, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Synchronicity II and – most notably, Every Breath You Take. The latter spent eight weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and earned the band two further Grammy Awards.

The Police briefly reunited in 2007 for a thirtieth anniversary tour, but have no plans to release more material in the foreseeable future.

Nickelback

Formed in 1995, the band self-released their first EP Hesher in March 1996. This was swiftly followed by their debut album Curb in May, which included the songs Where?, Fly, Left and Window Shopper. Although not commercially successful, the album was re-released in 2002 and earned a gold certification in Canada. Curb also led to the group signing a record deal with EMI and Roadrunner Records.

The rock group released their debut major label album The State in March 2000. It reached number 130 on the Billboard 200 and produced the US Main Rock chart Top 10 hits Leader of Men and Breathe, as well as the Top 30 hit Old Enough. However, it was Nickelback’s third album that would give them mainstream success.

Silver Side Up was released in September 2001. It reached a high of number two in the US chart, as well as number one in the UK and Canada, and sold in excess of eight million copies worldwide. The lead single How Your Remind Me was a phenomenal international success, reaching number one in the US and Canada and eventually becoming American radio’s most-played song of the decade, while the follow-up singles Too Bad and Never Gonna Be Alone Again were UK Top 10 and Top 30 hits respectively.

Since then the group have released a further three albums – The Long Road, All the Right Reasons and Dark Horse – and scored the US Top 10 hits Someday, Photograph, Far Away, Rockstar and Gotta Be Somebody, as well as the Top 20 singles Savin’ Me, If Everyone Cared and If Today Was Your Last Day. The Black Eyed Peas

The group first began to take shape in 1988, when Will.I.Am and Apl.De.Ap met in high school and began performing raps together, and they were joined by Taboo and Kim Hill in 1995. After signing to Interscope Records, the foursome released their debut album Behind the Front in June 1998 – which produced the singles Joints & Jam, Karma, Fallin’ Up and ¿Qué Dices? This was soon followed by 2000’s Bridging the Gap and the singles BEP Empire, Weekends and Request + Line (ft. Macy Gray). However, it would be their third studio album that would bring The Black Eyed Peas into the mainstream.

Elephunk was released in June 2000. It reached number fourteen on the US Billboard 200 and performed even better elsewhere, reaching number three in the UK, number two in Canada and number one in Australia – eventually selling over 8.5 million copies worldwide. The lead single Where Is the Love? (ft. Justin Timberlake) and the follow-up release Shut Up were both number one smash hits in over a dozen countries worldwide, while the follow up singles Hey Mama and Let’s Get It Started were both international Top 10 hits.

2005’s Monkey Business followed, which sold over ten million copies worldwide and included the huge hits Don’t Phunk With My Heart and Pump It, and then came 2009’s The E.N.D. (an acronym for Energy Never Dies). To date their fifth studio album has produced the US number one singles Boom Boom Pow and I Gotta Feeling – which topped the Hot 100 for an unprecedented 26 consecutive weeks between them – as well as their third album number one hit Imma Be.

Born on 22^nd August 1963 in Newton, North Carolina and brought up in Baltimore, Maryland, Amos began to learn the piano at the age of three and was composing her own instrumental pieces by the age of five. After studying at the renowned Peabody Conservatory of Music, she soon began performing in local piano bars and, at the age of fourteen, won a county teen talent contest. This led to her releasing her debut single Baltimore with MCA Records in 1980 – along with the B-side Walking With You.

In the late 1980s Amos set up the group Y Kant Tori Read, alongside the guitarist Steve Caton, drummer Matt Sorum, bass player Brad Cobb and keyboardist Jim Tauber. They released one self-titled album along with the single Distant Storm – which was featured on the 1988 film China O’Brien – before splitting up. However, their label Atlantic Records still demanded six albums from the group’s contract, so Amos decided to placate them by releasing a solo album instead.

1992’s Little Earthquakes was a critical hit and also a commercial success, reaching number fourteen in the UK Albums Chart. The singles Winter, Crucify and Silent All These Years all reached the Top 30 in the UK. Her follow up album Under the Pink was even more successful, reached number one in the UK (and number twelve in the US) and producing the UK Top 10 singles Cornflake Girl and Pretty Good Year.

Since then Amos has released a further nine studio albums and scored hits with singles like God, A Sorta Fairytale, Spark, Jackie’s Strength, Professional Widow, Wednesday, Taxi Ride and Welcome To England. She most recently appeared on David Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s 2010 concept album Here Lies Love.
