The Goo Goo Dolls are an American rock band, currently consisting of John Rzeznik on lead vocals and lead guitar, Robby Takac on bass guitar and backing vocals and Mike Malinin (formerly George Tutuska) on drums and percussion.

After forming in Buffalo, New York in 1986, the group released their debut self-titled album in 1988. This was followed by Jed the following year, although neither release enjoyed notable commercial success. Their third album, 1990’s Hold Me Up, gave the group their first chart hit, as the single There You Are reached number 24 on the US Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart, while their fourth album Superstar Car Wash produced the Top 5 single We are the Normal on the same chart.

However, it was their fifth studio album that would prove to be their mainstream breakthrough. A Boy Named Goo was released in March 1995 and was their biggest hit so far by a quite considerable margin. It reached number 27 on the Billboard 200, selling over two million copies in the US alone, and produced the Hot 100 number five hit Name, as well as Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart Top 30 singles Naked, Only One and Long Way Down.

This was followed by 1998’s Dizzy Up the Girl, which reached number fifteen on the Billboard 200 and sold five million copies worldwide. The lead single Iris reached number nine in the US charts and sold over a million copies, while the follow up singles Slide, Black Balloon and Broadway reached numbers eight, sixteen and 24 respectively. The single Dizzy was also a hit in Canada and Australia.

Since then the group have released a further two US Top 10 studio albums – 2002’s Gutterflower and 2006’s Let Love In – and scored hits with singles like Here Is Gone, Give a Little Bit and Better Days. Their ninth studio album Something for the Rest of Us is due for release towards the end of 2010. If you like Goo Goo Dolls and their songs, check out Goo Goo Dolls ringtones.
