    Britney Spears is a hugely successful American pop music singer-songwriter.

    Born 2nd December 1981, Spears began dancing at the age of three. She also learned to sing and entered several local talent competitions during her childhood, winning a number of them. By the age of nine she had signed with an agent in New York and landed in the musical Ruthless!, as well as auditioning for the national talent contest Star Search. In December 1992 she was cast in the Disney Channel show The Mickey Mouse Club, alongside future pop singers Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake.

    In the mid-1990s Spears recorded some demo songs and earned a contract with Jive Records. After appearing as the opening act for the boy band ‘N Sync (which included Timberlake), she release her debut album in January 1999. …Baby One More Time was an instant success, reaching number one in fifteen countries around the world, including the US and the UK, and selling over 25 million copies. It produced the phenomenally popular number one title single …Baby One More Time, which soon became of the best-selling songs of all time, as well as the US Top 10 singles Sometimes and (You Drive Me) Crazy, and the UK number one hit Born to Make You Happy.

    The singer’s follow-up album, Oops!… I Did It Again, was released in May 2000. It debuted at number one in the US charts, smashing the records for most first-day and first-week sales (500,000 and 1.3 million respectively) and eventually going on to sell over 20 million copies worldwide. The title single shot to number one in the UK, while the follow up singles Lucky and Stronger also reached the Top 10.

    Spears released four more albums during the 2000s and scored hits with the singles I’m a Slave 4 U, Overprotected, Everytime, Toxic, Me Against the Music, Do Somethin’, Gimme More, Piece of Me, Womanizer, Circus and If You Seek Amy. She is currently working on her seventh studio album.
